According to the National Weather Service in Morristown, very strong winds will develop late tonight ahead of an approaching cold front. Gusts as high as 50 to 60 MPH are possible in the highest terrain of the Southern Appalachians.
Additionally the front brings the possibility of strong to severe thunderstorms on Wednesday ahead of a strong cold front that will move into the Southern Appalachians and Eastern Tennessee Valley during the day- the weather service reports. The main threat from this system will be damaging winds of 60 PMH or greater…although, according to the NWS, an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out. Locally, heavy rains are likely…any showers or thunderstorms that may develop will like move rapidly to the east across the area.
