Secretary Wright to Visit Oak Ridge National Laboratory and Y-12 National Security Complex
WASHINGTON—U.S. Secretary of Energy Chris Wright will travel to Oak Ridge, Tennessee this week to visit Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) and Y-12 National Security Complex. Secretary Wright’s visit to Oak Ridge follows his trip to Los Alamos and Sandia National Laboratories earlier this week, where he highlighted the Department of Energy’s efforts to modernize the nation’s nuclear weapons system, unleash American innovation, and launch the American nuclear renaissance.
In addition to touring Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Secretary Wright will join OpenAI President and Co-Founder Greg Brockman at the “1,000 Scientist AI Jam Session” on Friday, February 28. This first-of-its-kind event co-hosted by OpenAI and nine of the U.S. Department of Energy’s national labs will explore how AI can accelerate scientific discovery.
Nine labs, including Argonne, Berkeley, Brookhaven, Idaho, Livermore, Los Alamos, Oak Ridge, Pacific Northwest, and Princeton Plasma Physics, will host more than 1,000 of America’s leading scientists for the day-long event. Participants will have access to leading frontier AI models to test research applications, evaluate model responses, and help improve future AI systems.
Secretary Wright and Mr. Brockman will deliver remarks and visit with participating Oak Ridge scientists during the event on Friday. Their remarks will be made publicly available.
Secretary Wright will be joined by U.S. Senator Bill Hagerty (R-Tenn.) and U.S. Representative Chuck Fleischmann (R-Tenn.) during his visit.
