Town Hall East Community Meeting Monday, Sept. 9, at 7:00 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall of Eastminster Presbyterian Church: Two Major East Knoxville Projects

Section of Chilhowee Park proposed as site of Emerald Youth Foundation complex.
Town Hall East will hold its first community meeting of the membership year in the Fellowship Hall of Eastminster Presbyterian Church.

The main focus of the meeting will be updates on two major projects affecting our area, Emerald Youth Foundation’s $20 million proposal for a sports and community service complex on Magnolia Avenue and the opening of the Amazon “last mile” fulfillment center at the site of the former East Towne Mall.

Emerald has submitted its proposal for the redevelopment of the 12.8-acre site on the south side of Magnolia that is currently part of Chilhowee Park but that is used for only a few weeks each year, primarily as a staging area for the Tennessee Valley Fair. Emerald representatives will provide more details on what sort of sports, health, and educational facilities they envisage for the complex.

Amazon will soon be accepting job applications for its new warehouse on Millertown Pike. We will hear more about the extent and planned use of that facility. The warehouse has been complete but sitting empty for the past year.

In addition, Town Hall East board member and realtor Tobias Kight will explain the major change that went into effect on August 18 regulating the commission the buyer’s agent receives for the sale of a house. Our KPD liaison, Officer Lori Banks, will also be on hand with comments on crime and policing in our district.

Everyone is welcome. Come meet your neighbors, ask questions, and get more insight into some of the many changes and projects impacting our community.

Rust Fellowship Hall is located off Holston Drive behind East Minster Presbyterian Church, 4904 Asheville Highway.
