Shoes for School orders close July 1
The Knoxville Area Urban League (KAUL) is reminding families that the deadline to register for children’s back-to-school shoes is July 1. The organization also is calling on sponsors to help purchase shoes and give kids confidence in the classroom.
Registration, donation and sponsor forms are available at thekaul.org/shoes. Eligible children aged 12 and younger can receive a free pair of shoes at Shoes for School, which will be held Saturday, Aug. 3, from 9 a.m. to noon at Chilhowee Park & Exposition Center’s Jacob Building.
“We rely on the incredible support of our community to ensure that children have a successful start to the new school year,” said Dr. Charles F. Lomax Jr., president and CEO of the Knoxville Area Urban League. “The Knoxville community never fails to help us, and we need donations and sponsors to make the 2024 Shoes for School the most impactful one to date.”
KAUL is seeking volunteers, including those who are bilingual, vendors, employers and company/organization booths as well. Interested participants can call the KAUL at 865-524-5511 for additional information.
Shoes for Shoes will move to a new, indoor venue in 2024 to avoid the summer heat. Also new this year, KAUL will host an employment and vendor fair on site, providing guardians with potential job opportunities and introducing local entrepreneurs to customers.
Companies seeking employees and small business owners interested in vending at the event can contact KAUL about participation.
Shoes for School is presented by Tennessee Valley Authority. WBIR-TV and MoxCar Marketing + Communications are media sponsors. Shoes are provided by Shoe Carnival. The event would not be possible without the collaboration of multiple agencies across East Tennessee.
