Inman expects Lowe to do well in softball at RSCC
By Steve Williams
Lizzi Lowe, the daughter of Powell High football head coach Matt Lowe, signed scholarship papers last week to play softball at Roane State Community College.
Her proud dad and Lady Panther teammates were among those at the Dec. 2 ceremony in the school library.
With her senior season still to come, Lizzi has been the starting left fielder and also played some in right and centerfield. Offensively, she has mostly hit in the No. 2 hole.
Lowe also had offers from Johnson University and Pellissippi State but decided on Roane State this past September.
The “coaching staff for sure” was the main reason she chose the Lady Raiders. Marty McDaniel is in his second year as the head coach at RSCC.
Lizzi also said she likes “the competitiveness of the team and the atmosphere.”
Powell Head Coach Jeff Inman said Lowe is “an outfielder with speed and a high on-base percentage. I think she will fit in well there. I expect her to play two years at Roane State and then have the opportunity to go on from there.
“She can play any outfield position and is a contact hitter with speed,” added Inman. “She can play the short game or hit with some power.”
Lowe is expected to major in Business Administration more than likely.
Former Powell player Grayson Woods also is on the Roane State team and plays right field.
Roane State is a public community college in East Tennessee with its main campus in Harriman. The college opened in 1971.
Soccer signee Morgan and C-N are a good match

The combination of being a Christian and playing the sport she loves made Carson-Newman University the perfect choice for Sifa Morgan.
The Powell High student-athlete signed scholarship papers with C-N in women’s soccer on Dec. 2 in the school library with many of her high school teammates attending.
Sifa started playing soccer when she was six years old.
With the Lady Panthers, she played the forward and striker positions and this past season she was a left or right winger.
Morgan also was a sprinter on the PHS track team, competing in the 100 and 200-meter dashes and the 4×100 and 4×200 relays.
Carson-Newman Head Coach Simon Duffy had a good opportunity to get Morgan as PHS Head Coach Jessica Cable also is in her second year as a Volunteer Assistant Coach at C-N.
“Whenever I went to go visit, I liked how close they were as a team and their (religious) beliefs,” said Sifa.
She plans to get a Bachelor’s degree in Sports Management and a minor in “the emotional kind of Therapy.”
Morgan said she had offers from Maryville College and Tennessee Wesleyan and a couple of others.
“I’m just thankful and excited to play next fall,” she added.
Carson-Newman is a private university in Jefferson City and is affiliated with the Tennessee Baptist Mission Board. Founded in 1851, its enrollment is about 2,500.
