Consequences

To God be the glory, great things He hath done…

Fanny Crosby

By Dr. Jim Ferguson

In the 14 years I’ve been writing for The Focus, I’ve never discarded an essay and started over. I often write on my iPhone because it’s always with me, and polishing an essay is easier and more enjoyable than the original draft. But there are dangers. Once, while traveling with an essay due, I inadvertently hit the delete button on an old “notes” program and lost an entire essay. Reconstructing that column was not fun.

I started this essay on November 4, the eve of America’s election Armageddon, because I needed a distraction. Like everyone with any awareness, I was anxious because the fate of our nation hung in the balance. And on Election Day, because schools were closed, Becky and I were actually relieved to be distracted following our grandkids from roller coaster to roller coaster at Dollywood.

Repeatedly, I have asked myself why I care so much about the country. No matter who won this election, I would be OK. I am a Christian and believe the events of this reality are but a prelude to the next. And I believe that the progressive socialists who have taken over the Democrat Party cannot complete their destruction of the country before it’s my time to, as Shakespeare said, “shuffle off this mortal coil.”

My passion is for the sake of my children and especially my grandchildren’s future. And so, like President Trump, I “fight, fight, fight,” using the talents afforded me. I write and Becky registers voters, getting them to early voting. Along with prayer, it’s what we can do.

Millions of Americans felt similarly because President Trump was elected in a landslide, the conservative Senate majority was increased and at this posting, it looks like the House of Representatives will remain Republican. Those labeled as deplorables by Hillary Clinton, bitter clingers to our guns and religion by Obama, Nazis by Kamala and garbage by Biden decided that they had had enough. The Democrats and the legacy media (ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, NYT, Washington Post) are so out of touch with American citizens that they believed their pollsters and now they all look like fools. So, we are done with Comrade Kamala and mincing Tim. And it is the final nail in the coffin for the legacy media, who most ignore.

Although I don’t know Harold Ford Jr., he seems like a nice guy on TV, so I prefer him to many liberal Democrats. As the post mortem of the Democrat Party’s disaster begins, I was intrigued when the ever polite Mr. Ford appealed to Republican TV panel members to be good winners.

Yes, taunting losers is inappropriate, though Obama infamously told Congressman Paul Ryan, “Elections have consequences.” So I thought, has Pelosi or Schumer ever been anything but ruthless? Can the dehumanization of Trump by Democrats and the legacy media’s vilification of MAGA supporters with Nazis epithets be excused and forgotten? No, Mr. Ford, this pattern of abuse can’t be overlooked. There are consequences for unjust lawfare, repeated baseless impeachments, vile vituperation, politically motivated tech industry attacks on conservatives and the utter policy failures of your Democrat party which have hurt so many. Instead of asking for forgiveness, you should complete the autopsy of your failed presidential candidate and the party leaders who deposed Biden. And I laugh when the Obamas and Clintons ask for post-election grace. I offer them nothing but scorn, a coup de grâce (finishing blow) and the exit.

There is Biblical guidance for Mr. Ford’s request. The ancient prophet Micah quotes God in chapter 6 verse 8 saying, we are “to act justly, to love mercy and to walk humbly with God.” And I believe there is an order to God’s commands.

The ancients believed that a culture could be founded on what we now refer to as the Cardinal Virtues. These are common sense, courage, justice and moderation. A virtue is a worthy or admirable quality and justice is the application of fairness. I believe once justice has been rendered, mercy can be extended to the vanquished, but not before. Therefore Mr. Ford, when the 51 intelligent agents who lied to the American people about the Hunter Biden laptop have been punished, when lawfare is ended and when confused children have been protected from the ghoulish medical trans-industry and drag queens, and when women are protected from men in their locker rooms and sport, then mercy can be extended.

The morning glories outside my study window are cheerful as a new day dawns with the hope for a resurgent America. The stock market reflects President Trump’s promise of a new golden era. Celebrity actors and late-night comedians have been exposed as useless props and empty facades. The world just seems brighter and more hopeful with President Trump winning the popular vote and swamping the electoral college. I can even see my friends smiling brightly through their text messages and emails.

Unlike Hollyweirds who threatened to leave the United States if Trump was elected and are again shown to be all talk and no walk, I had seriously thought about ending this column. But after lengthy discussions with Becky, many trusted friends and Mr. Hunley, President Trump’s victory has compelled me to continue.

Billy Graham advised memorizing scripture, and I find verses reassuring in troubled times. Especially meaningful for me are Paul’s words in 2 Timothy 4:7. The Apostle was under house arrest in Rome awaiting trial/audience before Caesar. Paul sensed that this would not go well for him. As a result, he focused on training his protégé, Timothy, to take over his work when he was gone.

I have modified Paul’s scripture to the future tense and claim it as my own. “I will fight the good fight, I will finish the race, I will keep the faith.” Join me and the real Rocky Balboa, President Trump, and let us together Make America Great Again.
