“Don’t marry the person you can live with, marry only the individual you think you can’t live without.
“I’m certain that most couples expect to find intimacy in marriage, but it somehow eludes them.
“My observation is that women are merely waiting for their husbands to assume leadership.”
The above are quotations from Dr. James Dobson, an American psychologist, evangelical Christian author, counselor and conservative political activist. Born in 1936 in Shrevesport, Louisiana, he gave his life to Jesus at the early age of three. In 1977 he became founder of Family Talk which he has led for over forty years. He’s been a leading voice in helping to strengthen families. He advocates that children should be raised according to morals and values grounded in biblical principles. The state of our country-and, perhaps, the world- shows us that this is not happening. As we all know, each family faces many challenges. Dr. Dobson is committed to providing trustworthy support to families, which is badly needed.
Let me give you some titles of books that Dr. Dobson has written that will help families in need “Dare to Discipline,” “Love Must Be Tough,” and “When God Doesn’t Make Sense.” No matter who you are, what you are going through, or what challenges your family may be facing, you will find support and biblical guidance at Dr. Dobson’s Family Talk.
According to 2017 U.S. Census Bureau, out of about 12 million single parents families with children under eighteen, more than 80% were headed by single mothers. I don’t condemn single families, although it does make me feel a little sad. Many single parents do a great job in raising their children. But many of those children are also roaming the streets, getting into trouble because they have no authority figure to lead them. Thank goodness there are services in the community who offer help to these children of single parents, such as Big Brother or Sister, Boys and Girls Clubs, and many others. To be a family in Christ is to be a family in love.
Thought for the day: Family is not an important thing. It’s everything. Michael J. Fox
