Hatred is the mindset of a soul twisted by evil.

On a cold January night in 49 BC, Julius Caesar and his army were camped beside the Rubicon River north of Italy. The army was returning home from the conquest and occupation of Gaul (France). However, the leaders in Rome were afraid of Caesar and especially his loyal army. The Roman Senate demanded that Caesar not cross the Rubicon which was the northern boundary of Italy. If he did so, insurrection and civil war would ensue.
Historians debate Caesar’s deliberations, but he later told his generals, “The die is cast,” apparently receiving direction by rolling dice. The ancient Romans were a superstitious bunch and even had a god of fortune named Fortuna.
The rest is history because Caesar crossed the Rubicon, defeated the army of the Roman Senate and became Rome’s ruler for five years until he was assassinated on the Ides of March, 44 BC.
I understand probability and do not seek the direction of dice, Tarot cards or Ouija boards. Nor do I have much faith in political polls and no respect for the media who report poll results. Mostly, I trust the results of the vote, but unfortunately there remain unscrupulous characters who cheat. These criminals need to be caught, prosecuted and share a cell with Bubba on New York’s infamous Rikers Island.
I thought about the Roman historical vignette when President Trump crossed the Hudson River, returning to his native New York City. However, this time his return was not for lawfare trials waged by actual criminals of the corrupt legal system. This time Trump returned with an army of Big Apple supporters.
Following Trump’s politically masterful shift at a McDonalds restaurant and the wildly successful, humanizing three hour interview with Joe Rogan, the rally in Madison Square Garden (MSG) in the heart of Gotham will hopefully be the stake in the heart of Evil.
It is fall and the leaves outside my study are turning from brilliant yellow to ochre. And by the time most of you read this essay America’s die will have been cast, not by dice but through voting.
As a Christian, I believe that God created this universe which operates on the principles of physics, also created by God. Scripture tells us that God can intervene and override physics, but mostly He allows situations to play out. I’ll admit that this is sometimes hard to understand, but I believe this affords us free will. And since God existed before His Creation, God has the “big picture” and is not bound by the physics of space or even time.
Nonetheless, I pray, hope and vote. C. S. Lewis once said that he wasn’t sure his prayers changed the mind of God, but averred prayers changed him (Lewis). Read Matthew 15:21-28 for a different perspective.
I’m a science fiction (SF) fan and have published two SF novels. I am not a fan of the Marvel Superhero comics or movies. However, I was intrigued when I read that President Trump at the MSG rally was likened to Captain America, while Vance, Musk, etc. were his MAGA Avengers. The rally was one of optimism and concrete plans to fix Kamala and Biden’s mess. The rally was not what the disgusting media and the deranged harpies of The View alleged.
President Trump is indefatigable which Mr. Webster describes as tireless or determined. Trump is no “superhero,” so I’m sure he gets tired at times. But, he has more energy than me or anyone else I know.
During the Joe Rogan interview (viewed by 40 million in the first week), Trump said he has lived two lives. In his first life, he was a builder in New York City, star of The Apprentice and was loved by the likes of Whoopi Goldberg and the Joy-less Bahar. But when he ran for president, the same people who wanted their pictures taken with him and to be his friend, turned on him and now vilify and despise him. I find that sad, but I have experienced the same.
I can’t predict the outcome of the election. However, I can feel the “Big Mo,” (momentum). President Trump has it; Kamala does not. Trump has a proven track record; Harris’ record is one of utter failure. Trump explains his plans to fix the mess; Harris is incapable of explaining anything. Trump has a stellar vice-presidential candidate. Harris has a self-described “knucklehead.” Kamala has the mainstream media, tech lords, Hollywood and university professors. Trump has the alternative media, Elon and workers who produce. Harris has the Washington bureaucrats. Trump has We The People. Kamala has lost the “joy” and returned to hate in her closing message. But this was eclipsed by the old coot in the White House who called half of the nation “garbage.” Trump destroyed them both by trolling them as The Garbage Man.
So at the risk of appearing foolish, I will make a prediction and a prayer on Halloween Eve as this essay is sent to the publisher. However, intangibles remain. Will those who Obama called “bitter clingers,” Harris called Nazis and Biden called garbage, support the America-first populist with a checkered past?
However, the biggest intangible is the degree to which hatred might cause someone, in the secrecy of the voting booth, to vote against President Trump, their own well-being and their children’s future.
I never underestimate hatred, the manipulative tool of evil. In fact, this form of mental illness creeps me out similar to the feeling I had watching “The Exorcist.” My scoring system is imperfect, but in agreement with Democrat Nate Silver and other oddsmakers.
And my schadenfreude is tingling, so I predict President Trump will be reelected and down-ballot Democrats will be defeated in droves.
