The True Meaning of Easter
By Ralphine Major
That special day is nearing. Growing up, spring brought thoughts of Easter and everything new. It was fun to plan for just the right outfit to wear on Easter Sunday, usually something new and sewn by hand. Last minute stitches were often barely finished in time to wear them to church. But there is so much more to Easter than pretty clothes, bunnies, and baskets.
Palm Sunday is the week before Easter. On that day, Jesus rode into Jerusalem on a donkey and people waved palm branches. By the end of the week, on Good Friday, Jesus was crucified on a cross and suffered a brutal death. But on Easter Sunday—a most important day for Christians—he rose from the dead! Easter is a reminder of Eternal life. Jesus died on the cross to give all who believe the gift of everlasting life. On Easter morning, Mary saw Angels near the place where Jesus was buried. The Stone that secured the burial place was rolled away from the Tomb on Easter morning. It was an Empty tomb! Our Risen Lord is the hope for mankind and the glory of E A S T E R !
Words of Faith: “But Mary stood without at the sepulchre weeping: and as she wept, she stooped down, and looked into the sepulchre, And seeth two angels in white sitting, the one at the head, and the other at the feet, where the body of Jesus had lain.” John 20:11-12 (KJV).
