Watermelon
One of the Joys of Summer!
By Ralphine Major
They come in different shapes and sizes. Some are long; others are short and round. They may be very large, more medium in size, or very small. Many are light green in color and striped. Others may be a dark green solid color. Watermelons! They are one of summer’s most popular fruits with their sweet, juicy taste.
The nutritious melon comes in a yellow fruit or the more common red. I have heard comments that watermelons with seeds have a better flavor, although those black seeds can be a nuisance. That is probably the reason so many people would rather bite into a serving of seedless melon. There seems to be an art to picking out the best watermelon, such as finding the ones with a yellow spot or thumping the melon to check its ripeness. So popular is the watermelon that many candies and beverages on the market today are made with their unique flavor.
A watermelon cutting often brings people together for the simple joy of fellowship and to savor those oh-so-delicious slices of watermelon in summer. Take in the wonderful treats of summer, for fall is nipping at her heels!
Words of Faith: “And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so.” Genesis 1:11 (KJV).
